Make your next holiday win-win

With COVID-19 travel restrictions easing, Queenslanders are being encouraged to travel around the state to support the tourism industry.
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is advising consumers to consider booking with accommodation providers and tour operators directly, as doing so will likely get the consumer a better deal and put more money in the tourism industry’s pocket.
Fair Trading Executive Director Brian Bauer said third-party booking sites can be a great tool in some situations, but they are not free – the accommodation provider and tour operator pay for the service, and the cost is passed on to consumers.
“Booking directly with accommodation and tour providers also helps ensure a smooth holiday by minimizing any risks of booking sites having to refer enquiries or requests to the provider, which could take time,” Mr Bauer said.
“Booking directly may also confer extra benefits that booking sites do not provide.
“For example, accommodation providers may present you with optional extras at a discount, such as meals or access to health and fitness facilities or equipment.
“Tour operators may also offer last minute discounts to fill up empty seats.
“As ever, consumers should read the business’s terms and conditions carefully to understand what the situation will be should something not proceed as planned.”
