Information about members of your association

There are rules for people to become members and stop being members of an incorporated association, and you must securely keep a register of all members.

Your rules must give details of the:

  • requirements for being a member
  • conditions for when someone stops being a member.

For example, a person who doesn’t pay their yearly fee might no longer qualify to be a member.

Register of members

Your association’s records must include a register of ordinary members and of committee members.

Under privacy laws, anyone has the right to:

  • check records kept about them (including membership details)
  • correct any details they believe are inaccurate.
