Meet our graduates

Hi, my name is Duncan Robertson and I'm a Graduate Project Officer for the Office of the Coordinator General [Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning]. I'm part of the Project Evaluation and Facilitation Team. I studied a Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in public health and I'm halfway through my Masters in Urban and Regional Planning.

I've had 6 heart surgeries over my lifetime and I believe my health has definitely impacted the way I've pursued my career. I want to give something back to Queensland, that's why I applied for the graduate program. Working in government allows us a specific and privileged chance to give back to Queensland that only public servants can.

Everyone's friendly, everyone's warm, everyone's welcoming to me. To somebody that hasn't come from public industry before, I'm not used to a lot of things, but I'm learning and being supported very well.

Each and every day I feel like I'm definitely able to impact the future of Queensland. There was a time when I was in the Botanic Gardens, I looked and I said 'I'm gonna work here one day' and here I am. I achieved my goal.

My name is Brianna Davis and I am a Program Support Officer [Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning].

I got asked to be involved in redrafting the First Nations Framework that came out at the end of last year and I went through a bit of the Indigenous Policy Unit and mapped out what we can do better with the initiatives within our communities.

It's been a good experience for me to see what it's like to be in the Policy team. You do one thing the same everyday, which is our ad hoc correspondence and watching that, but you do a lot of different things as well.

Going on trips to different places, like I've been to Cherbourg twice this year for different events. The opportunities that I've had to meet different people from different areas has been the best part. So it's not just been Economic Development, it's been Indigenous Policy Unit and then the Regional Strategy Team.

Meeting all these people in different industries and learning about what they do has helped me figure out where I want to go after this year.

My name is Sahil Gill and I'm currently a Graduate Planner within the department [Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning]. I work within the planning group and within a team called System Support Improvement.

My favourite thing about my role is that we have such an impact on how the planning framework within Queensland operates, and we have a lot of oversight over how plan-making decisions are made and how they materialise within the built environment that we live in.

So planning to me it's a nexus of the built environment and how people interact with the built environment, and I think the State Government plays a very important role in that. It's nothing that uni (university) can really prepare you for. The amount of stuff that we do here, it's incredible.

My name is Teegan, and I am a Digital Officer in the Content Team [Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning]. Before I started this role, I studied at QUT. I did a double degree in Media and Communications and Nutrition Science.

My role as a digital officer involves many things. I mainly focus on social media, so we have a fair amount of social media accounts, and just creating content to go out for that. I do many things from content creation, writing the copy, doing reports. All that kind of jazz.

It's really interesting learning about all the different business sectors and how they impact the wider Queensland community.

The best part of my role is definitely the people. I still love clicking in and going through the elevators.
