Graduate program eligibility and the application process

Wondering what to expect during the recruitment process? There are generally 5 steps in the graduate program application process. Make sure you read each step carefully so that you don’t miss any requirements.

Program eligibility and the application process will vary depending on the team conducting the process. The below steps are a general guide only and we recommend you visit the relevant programs page for the specific steps and requirements

Remember to bring your authentic self and #BeHere4Qld.

To apply for our graduate programs, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • hold Australian citizenship, or reside in Australia and have permission, under a Commonwealth law, to work in Australia. Find more information at Department of Home Affairs
  • have completed your university degree in 2023, be due to graduate in 2024 or due to graduate before February 2025
  • have a university undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.

As part of the selection process, you will need to complete relevant employment checks, including a criminal history check.

Note: If you completed your degree overseas, your degree will need to be assessed by the Overseas Qualifications Unit and included in your application.

Each graduate program will have their own online application requirements detailed on their program page. Read the instructions carefully to ensure you don’t forget any documents or miss any important dates. You can apply for as many programs as you like.

If you are applying for the Queensland Government graduate programs expression of interest, you only need to include your resume. You do not need to submit a cover letter. Graduate programs recruit at different times throughout the year. Submit your interest early to ensure you're notified when graduate programs begin recruiting.

The Queensland Government is committed to building an inclusive and diverse workforce. We encourage people of different backgrounds, experiences and abilities to apply.

Include any support and accessibility requirements in your application. You can contact graduate program coordinators at any point in the application process to talk about support and accessibility needs.

If a graduate program is interested in your application, you'll be invited to participate in an assessment process. Each graduate program has a separate assessment process, so you may participate in different processes for different graduate programs.

Assessment may include:

  • psychometric assessment (personality, values or cognitive)
  • an online interview
  • an assessment centre
  • a combination of the above.

Remember to let graduate program coordinators know if you have any support or accessibility needs.
