Reduce your electricity bill

Choose or change electricity retailers

You can compare and choose available electricity deals offered by electricity retailers using Energy Made Easy or you can contact your current electricity retailer to ask for a better electricity deal.

Energy efficient appliances

Appliances can be responsible for a lot of the energy consumption in your home.

When shopping for appliances look for the Energy Rating label. The star rating indicates how efficient the appliance is.

Visit the Energy Rating website to check the energy efficiency of specific appliances.

The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) program is a government program on energy efficiency standards and energy labelling for equipment and appliances.

Save energy around the home

Lowering your energy usage and considering off-peak options (i.e. time-of-use tariffs) are 2 of the cheapest and easiest ways to reduce your electricity bill.

To make the biggest energy savings, you should focus on how to best use the appliances that use the most energy (e.g. refrigerator, washing machine, clothes dryer, dishwasher, air conditioner).

Read our energy efficiency guide (PDF, 1.7MB) for information about how you can save on your energy bills.

Lowering your usage also reduces pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and the need for further infrastructure development.

Energy concessions

Read about these energy concessions, check if you are eligible, and find out how to apply.

Read the electricity rebate resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households and the electricity rebates and concessions fact sheet for the general community.
