About quarantine for COVID-19
Quarantine is when people who are well and may have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 have to stay away from others to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Quarantine means staying in your home or government arranged accommodation for 14 days and not leaving unless it is to get essential medical care or supplies, to avoid injury or illness, or to escape a risk of harm.
In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, anyone arriving in Queensland must quarantine if you have:
- been overseas in the last 14 days (excluding travel on a quarantine free flight from a safe travel zone country)
- been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days or since the hotspot was declared (whichever is shorter), and the place is a COVID-19 hotspot at the time you enter Queensland
People already in Queensland will be directed to quarantine if they have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19.
If you are directed to quarantine, you will be issued with a quarantine direction under the Public Health Act 2005. This is a legal notice.
Quarantine for interstate hotspots and overseas arrivals
If you have been directed to quarantine by a public health official, you must stay at the address stated on your quarantine direction for 14 days, or the date specified on the direction.
Anyone arriving from overseas (excluding travel on a quarantine free flight from a safe travel zone country) or from a declared COVID-19 hotspot will be directed to quarantine in government arranged accommodation. You will be required to pay a quarantine fee.
You will need to stay at a government arranged hotel for 14 days unless you have received an exemption, which is rare.

Quarantine for close contacts of people with COVID-19
Anyone who is already in Queensland and is identified as a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19, will be directed to quarantine either at home or in government arranged accommodation. Close contacts directed to quarantine in government arranged hotel will not be charged.
