Volunteer Marine Rescue Queensland

Volunteer Marine  Rescue (VMR) Queensland has a team of almost 1500 volunteers trained and dedicated  to assisting with the preservation of life at sea. We operate from 25 locations  throughout Queensland from the busy waterways of the Gold Coast and Brisbane  through far northern Queensland across the Torres Strait and through some of  Queensland’s most remote waterways in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Our volunteers train  and take roles in administration work, radio watch keeping, maintenance,  fund-raising, rescue vessel crew and being the skipper of a rescue vessel. VMR  crews operate around the clock rescuing persons and vessels in distress. We  routinely tow home disabled vessels, attend to vessels grounded or out of fuel  or experiencing other difficulties. We provide search and rescue services to  the Queensland community as directed by the Queensland Police Service. We also  provide medical evacuation services under the direction of Queensland  Ambulance.

Marine Rescue  Queensland provides its members with maritime training accredited by both ASQA  and AMSA for the issuing of nationally recognised certificates.

With a motto of  “Volunteers Saving Lives” we are proud of our dedicated team. Somewhere in  Queensland 24 hours a day 365 days a year, a VMR volunteer is always on the  job.
