Household preparedness for people with a disability, their families and carers

Emergency Management Queensland has joined with Australian Red Cross to provide a Queensland version of this booklet.

This resource provides information on the four steps to prepare for emergencies and is tailored to meet the specific needs of people with a disability.

How can you use this resource?

If you have a disability, you can use the step by step approach to assist in:

  • Establishing or strengthening your support network
  • Being informed of hazards, local support and emergency contacts
  • Identifying your specific needs in an emergency and developing your personal emergency plan
  • Deciding on appropriate items for your personal emergency kit and evacuation kit.

If you work with, or support, people with a disability, you can use the booklet as a useful reference in supporting clients to develop their own personal emergency planning requirements.
