Property Level Flood Information Portals

Local Council Property Level Flood Information Portals (PLFIPs) enable members of the public to enter their address into a property flood information portal, hosted by their local council, and obtain flood information such as floor level relative to forecast flood gauge levels.

Local councils require flood study and cadastre data to utilise the full functionality of the system (but limited functionality will be available without this). For councils without the necessary flood data, the system will be able to be implemented with what data is available (for example, the flood zone from planning scheme overlays).

Property Level Flood Information Portals initiatives

Under the $741 million Resilient Homes Fund, $10 million has been allocated to develop Local Council Property Level Flood Information Portals. The PLFIPs work package is available to 37 councils in local government areas (LGAs) impacted by the South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding event, the Central, Southern and Western Queensland Rainfall and Flooding event and Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth event. Where necessary, the related $28 million Flood Risk Management (FRM) Program (Category D, DRFA) will support councils in obtaining this data.

The aim of the PLFIPs is to ensure every homeowner/resident will have access to flood information as it relates specifically to their property/place of residence for the purpose of understanding their flood risk and preparing for future events. Information will include the source of risk, the level of risk (event first inundated, estimated levels in a range of events), the closest flood free land, and river gauge reference point.
