Preparation for training
When you have agreed to deliver training, you will need to help the apprentice or trainee and their employer to prepare for it.
Employer resource assessment
You must assess the employer's training resources to ensure the facilities, range of work, supervision and training is adequate for the apprentice or trainee to achieve the outcomes of their training plan.
You will need to keep a record of this assessment. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training have developed a number of employer resource assessment forms for use to record this assessment.
Before training starts, you must conduct an induction for the apprentice or trainee and their employer.
An induction information guide for supervising registered training organisations will help you deliver the induction.
The training plan
The training plan outlines the training to be delivered to the apprentice or trainee by you and the employer. You must negotiate its development with the employer and the apprentice or trainee.
You must take all reasonable steps to ensure that the training plan is negotiated and signed within the timeframes set out by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training—these vary depending on the circumstances for a training plan.
A training plan template is available.
The training record
The training record must be provided to the apprentice or trainee within 14 days of the training plan being signed. It documents their progress and achievement of competencies outlined in the training plan.
