The Queensland Government is here to provide help to Queenslanders in need. It is important that we can focus on the more vulnerable members of our community.

We need your help to do that.

In relation to periods of quarantine or self-isolation –

Be self-reliant

Plan for a possible period of quarantine or self-isolation.

Ensure that you have adequate supplies of food, medication and essential items.

Rely on your family, friend, or neighbours.

Maintain contact with your personal network

Use online delivery services for food and medication where possible. Food shops and chemists are making online purchasing available.

Ask friends, family members or neighbours to assist by arranging delivery of essential items to your home – ensure you keep a safe distance.

Community Recovery Hotline

If you have no other means of getting food or essential items, call 1800 173 349

The Community Recovery Hotline is also available to support vulnerable Queenslanders in home quarantine who have no other means of support.

The hotline assists people who have been advised to quarantine at home by a medical professional, Queensland Health or through government direction and have no other mechanisms for support.

Our staff will be able to work with partner organisations to arrange non-contact delivery of essential food and medication to people in quarantine with no other means of support.

Health and wellbeing

Help and support during quarantine

If you have questions about being a close contact of someone who has COVID-19 and what to do if you are told to quarantine, find information about your requirements, testing and health directions.

Specific advice and information about home quarantine is also available for Queenslanders, such as how to access food and medication during lockdown, and the current restrictions in place.

It’s important to remember to look after both your physical and mental health during quarantine.

To talk to someone about quarantine or self-isolation and for health advice Queenslanders should call 134 COVID (134 268) or visit the Queensland Government website.

The Queensland Mental Health Commission's website also has a wide range of resources available. Further advice and strategies to manage your mental health and wellbeing during quarantine is available from UnitingCare Queensland, or Beyond Blue’s COVID-19 wellbeing service or call them on 1800 512 348 for support.

Financial support

If you need information about the Australian Government’s support for people impacted by COVID-19, including Economic Support Payments and allowances for people who are in quarantine or self-isolation and can’t work, visit the Services Australia website or call 132 468, or for details on Australian Government measures and assistance available visit the Australian Government COVID-19 website.

The financial impacts of COVID-19 are evolving rapidly and hit different members of society unevenly. The Salvation Army are offering free financial counselling and free videos and action plans on their website to help you through these challenging times.

Financial counselling and support is also available from the Australian Government. For more information visit Services Australia, MoneySmart, or call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007.

Those on a low income may be eligible to apply for a ‘No Interest Loan’. For more information and details on how to apply, visit the MoneySmart website.

Information for Queenslanders with disability

Queenslanders with Disability Network

Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) in partnership with the Queensland Government have information and support available for people with a disability on the QDN website.

Disability Gateway

People with disability can contact the Disability Gateway to get free, fact-checked and private information and advice about COVID-19. They can also be referred to other support services if needed, including counselling and advocacy. The Disability Gateway can help families, carers and support workers, too.

To use the Disability Gateway, go to Disability Gateway or call 1800 643 787. The Disability Gateway phone line is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm AEDT.

If you need information in a language other than English, call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450 and ask to be connected to the Disability Gateway.

If you are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment, call the National Relay Service on 1800 555 677 and ask to be connected to the Disability Gateway.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) clients and aged care clients

If you are receiving NDIS or My Aged Care services contact your service provider to seek support in the first instance.

Alternatively, you can call:

  • the National Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080
  • the NDIS Contact Centre on 1800 800 110
  • the My Aged Care contact centre on 1800 200 422
  • the National Relay Service Helpdesk on 1800 555 660.

NDIS participants will now have access to priority home delivery assistance. NDIS participants would have received a unique code via SMS or email, which will provide them direct access to priority home grocery delivery services from Woolworths, Coles, IGA, Foodland IGA, Foodworks and Harris Farm. An updated list of retailers will be kept under the FAQ section on the Coronavirus page of the NDIS website. This is a further measure to ensure NDIS participants can continue to access the services and supports they need.

The Australian Government has announced these further NDIS and COVID-19 related initiatives:

  • for the next 5 months (from May 2020) eligible participants are able to use existing NDIS plan funding to purchase low-cost assistive technology, including smart devices, to enable continued access to disability supports through telehealth and telepractice while physical distancing requirements are in place
  • new support items for Supported Independent Living providers are now available where a participant has been diagnosed with COVID-19, including higher intensity support and professional cleaning services
  • download access request and supporting evidence forms from the NDIS website.

Education and children

  • Study Queensland is working with its clients to support them and international students with careers advice, rental issues, financial support, early access to superannuation, changes in study conditions, and visa issues. For more information visit Study Queensland's website.
  • It can be difficult to explain COVID-19 to children, and therefore Red Cross have developed tips to help parents navigate the conversation. For more information visit the Red Cross website.
  • A new children’s book, Birdie and the Virus developed by Children’s Health Queensland, helps children better understand the COVID-19 pandemic. Birdie and the Virus can be read online for free in English, Farsi, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Korean, or printed copies can be ordered.
