Help for women with disability experiencing domestic and family violence

Women with disability are almost twice as likely to experience domestic and family violence compared to women without disability.

Research shows women with disability seek help for similar reasons that other women do, however there are added barriers to safety and accessing inclusive support for these women, such as:

  • an intimate partner can also be the career and the perpetrator
  • community attitudes and social isolation
  • education
  • work and employment opportunities
  • communication challenges.
