Gambling Harm Awareness Week
During Gambling Harm Awareness Week (18–24 July 2022) we are encouraging Queenslanders to start a conversation about safe and unsafe gambling—and highlighting the help available.
This annual event was previously known as Responsible Gambling Awareness Week. It has been renamed to highlight that safer gambling is not just the responsibility of the individual gambler. This year’s theme is ‘Let’s talk about gambling’.
If gambling has become a problem for you or someone you know, help and resources are available, including:
- tools to measure how much time and money you spend on gambling
- information about the signs of problem gambling behaviour and tips on how to talk with someone who may need help
- self-help strategies
- information about how to ban yourself from specific gambling providers, products or services
- free and confidential advice and counselling over the phone, online, or face-to-face.
This year we continue to promote our ‘When gambling took over…’ campaign, which raised awareness of the signs of problem gambling and encouraged people to seek help. Allen, David and Louise are the three people featured in this campaign.
You can watch their stories about how their gambling turned into problem gambling and how they have been able to overcome the challenges this caused them.
Starting a conversation about gambling could change a life. If you or someone you know gambles, visit Gambling Help Queensland, and start a conversation today.
