Compensation for volunteer firefighters

In recognition of the hard work and sacrifices made by volunteers across Queensland and interstate during the prolonged and devastating bushfire season, Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Services volunteers will be able to claim up to $6000 as compensation for income lost while protecting our communities.

The Volunteer Firefighters Compensation Package 2019-20 will be available to volunteers who are self-employed or work for a small or medium business with an annual turnover of less than $50 million, and who provided direct operational support for more than 10 days between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020.

The package is funded by the Australian Government, and administered by the Queensland Government, under Category D of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Registrations are now open for the program with applications officially opening on Monday 13 January 2020.
