Queensland Week events sponsored as part of the 2013 sponsorship program were:

Queensland Week Family Fun Day
(Blackwater International Coal Centre)

When: Sunday 2 June 2013

The family fun day involved a tug of war between local mining companies, races, storytelling, strongest person competition, local art and heritage displays, bush poetry, performances by local musicians and a choir, as well as a BBQ breakfast, billy tea and damper.

Queensland Week Ubobo Bush Festival
(Boyne Valley Community Discovery Centre Inc and Ubobo Progress Association Inc)

When: Saturday 8 June 2013

The day included, reminiscing and catching up with old friends beginning with a fun run in the morning, bush markets, old fashioned school-break-up-day style games and a picnic lunch. In the afternoon a 25 year time capsule was opened and the Ubobo Heritage Trail booklet launched. A highlight of the day was the Hall of Memories. Past and present residents were asked to bring a plate – a plate of written memories from times past to be displayed around the Memorial Hall. The day ended with a camp oven dinner followed by an open air concert and dancing.

Queensland Week Chronicles of Flinders—150 Year celebrations

When: Monday 3 to Sunday 9 June 2013

The event celebrated the history, culture and progression of life for current and past residents in the communities of Hughenden, Prairie, Torrens Creek and Stamford showcasing their importance and contributions to the development of Queensland. The week long celebration included a street parade, markets, trivia night, historical photo exhibition and Pioneer Ball.

Our Queensland Our Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Queensland Week Celebration

The fun day included entertainment by The Windy City Jazzmen accompanied by local cuisine. The day commenced with a poet’s breakfast, followed by the raising of the Queensland Flag and reading of the Proclamation. Other activities included a school childrens’ colouring, drawing and poetry writing competition on Queensland emblems and ‘What Queensland means to me’, children’s activities, art and craft stalls, and community achievement awards.

Queensland Week Bush Spirit Festival

When: Saturday 1 June 2013

The festival was an outback Queensland celebration of Horses and Heritage, art and cultures and brought together artisans from across Queensland who practiced bush crafts. It featured Australian horseman entertainer and bush poet Guy McLean, working heavy horse display, working dog display, pony club display, Aboriginal dancing and didgeridoo playing. There was also market stalls, displays and demonstrations such as, silversmithing, blacksmithing, horse shoeing, leathercraft, whip cracking, woodcarving and chainsaw carving. Queensland produce was sold, along with billy tea and damper. An iconic Queensland exhibition and photography competition completed the bush festival.

Queensland Week Inter Island Tug of War

When: Sunday 9 June 2013

This community celebration brought the Southern Moreton Bay Island and mainlander communities together to participate in a unique tug of war event. It saw the re-establishment of a tug of war between teams, 300 metres apart on Macleay and Lamb islands. Markets, food stalls and children’s activities entertained the crowds once the tug of war ended.

Murweh Queensland Week Celebration

When: Friday 7 June and Saturday 8 June 2013

Two different celebrations were held across the Murweh Shire. In Charleville, families came together to enjoy activities, music and a BBQ. In Morven the community celebrated with activities and competitions including the ‘best Queensland ute’. There were stalls with local produce, and lots of family entertainment.

Three Endangered Animals - A Queensland Week production

When: Monday 3 to Friday 7 June 2013

Artslink Queensland toured a production of The Three Endangered Animals, a dramatic and highly-entertaining story which celebrated three much-loved local endangered species – the dugong, the cassowary, and the bilby. The production toured schools in the Mackay to Cairns region. A special edition Queensland Week teacher resource kit, including activities focused on Queensland Week, were created and provided to the participating schools.

Queensland Week Surfers Paradise Beach Picnic

This free community event was staged on the iconic sands of Surfers Paradise beach. The day included Queensland themed entertainment with performances from local primary schools, historical re-enactments from Gold Coast performers, free public BBQ, casual beach cricket competition and rescue demonstrations from Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club.

Queensland Week Indigenous Music Showcase

QMusic, in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse, presented a free, all ages concert on Queensland Day. The event showcased four Indigenous artists from Cairns, Rockhampton, South West Queensland and Brisbane.

Queensland Week “Lowkey” Music Festival

When: Saturday 1 June 2013

The music festival celebrated Queensland Week in true Queensland style. Staged on and beside the beach, the event showcased Queensland musicians from the acoustic, roots and alternative genres. The event also featured free workshops, sports, and market stalls with local wares, fashion, cultural crafts and visual art.

Queensland Week Whitsunday Window Display Competition

When: Monday 3 to Saturday 8 June 2013

Throughout the Whitsundays, businesses supported Queensland Week by decorating and dressing up their shops to promote Queensland Heroes. This was in categories of sport, culture, history and environment and services. Best dressed and people’s choice awards were presented to the winners.
