Queensland Week events sponsored as part of the 2012 sponsorship program were:

Queensland Week Party at Charlie’s Trousers—140 years celebration
(Charters Towers Regional Council)

When: Saturday 2 June 2012

The community street party and celebrations involved local entertainment, an awards ceremony, art exhibition, food and market stalls, free kids entertainment, photo competition and The Charters Towers Challenge. The event also celebrated 140 years of Charters Towers.

Queensland Week Community Day
(Cairns Regional Gallery)

When: Saturday 2 June 2012

The free family fun day at the gallery included talks by local artists and curators, workshops and an exhibition. The day focused on endangered Queensland icons (cassowary, dugong and sea turtle) and attendees were given a free seed stick of Queensland natives. The day was also complemented by a Queensland icon competition and local entertainment.

Queensland Week Celebration by the Sea

When: Saturday 2 to Sunday 3 June 2012

The weekend showcased local community groups, musicians and artists, celebrating their contribution to the Fraser Coast and greater Queensland. The program included a busking competition, water sports, soap box, community art and song writing competitions, performances, sand art and showcases of musicians and artists.

Queensland Week Mission Arts Festival

The festival provided residents and visitors with a week of events, art workshops and cultural activities celebrating the unique culture, heritage and aspirations of the Mission Beach area. Highlights included an exhibition opening, concert and community celebration.

Queensland Week Whitsunday Community Champion Fun Days
(Whitsunday Regional Council)

When: Saturday 2, Sunday 3, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June 2012

Four free events were staged around the Whitsunday in Collinsville, Bowen, Cannonvale and Proserpine to focus on the achievements of individuals and groups in the local community. Each event included music, entertainment and performances by local Indigenous and cross-cultural groups. Leading up to Queensland Week, the Whitsunday Regional Council called for community nominations for champions in a range of categories.

Queensland Week Family Fun Day

The family fun day encouraged Burdekin residents and visitors to celebrate Queensland Week. The program included free entertainment, children's' rides and activities, as well as fitness demonstrations. There were also market stalls and sporting competitions.

Queensland Week Rainbow Beach Festival of Living

When: Sunday 3 June 2012

The festival was themed ‘celebrate living Queensland style’ and included all day entertainment by local musicians, an awards presentation, dreamtime stories, local produce stalls and children’s activities. All attendees were encouraged to wear Queensland colours.

Queensland Week Townsville Literary Festival

When: Monday 4 to Monday 11 June 2012

The week long festival celebrated Queensland writers, literature and drama. It provided the opportunity for local and regional communities to engage with recognised Queensland writers and participate in workshops, author talks and lectures. It also included a full day Authors on the Strand event and visits by authors to local schools, libraries and galleries.

Queensland Week Celebrations at Woodgate Beach

When: Tuesday 5 to Monday 11 June 2012

This week long celebration focused on sport, art, culture, food and family fun. The program included a BBQ, continuous tennis, gourmet cooking demonstrations, art exhibition and jazz concert. The Woodgate Family Fun Day was held on the final day with markets, races on the beach and a Queensland themed sandcastle building competition.

The Queensland Day Community BBQ
(Mackay Regional Council)

When: Wednesday 6 June 2012 (Queensland Day)

Mackay celebrated its 150 sesquicentennial in 2012. The community BBQ was an opportunity to retrace the region’s history and showcase its economic, social and sporting contribution to Queensland. Activities included a citizenship ceremony, BBQ, roving entertainment and history displays. The event also featured an outdoor viewing of a DVD that was a visual representation of Mackay and Queensland over the past 150 years.

Queensland Week Tea and Scones–a social history of Queensland 90 years celebration
(Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA))

When: Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 June 2012

Tea and scones were served amongst an exhibition in Toowoomba to celebrate QCWA's 90 years. The exhibition focused on each of the nine decades that QCWA has existed and highlighted events and happenings that took place in Queensland during each decade and the QCWA’s contribution to these.

Queensland Week Riding on the Sheep’s Back—Then and Now Celebration

When: Friday 8 to Sunday 10 June 2012

This reflective event celebrated and commemorated Muttaburra’s shearing industry and its place and impact on the broader Queensland sheep industry. The program included entertainment, demonstrations, stalls, photography, historical displays and a range of other activities that promoted living in Queensland, both now and in the past.

Far North Queensland Heritage Day

When: Saturday 9 June 2012

The day bought to life the rich heritage of the pioneer history and early settlement of Queensland and the Far North. Based around the displays at the Mareeba Heritage Centre, the free day provided a range of activities and events including an opening ceremony, re-enactments, local town crier, tours, games, competitions, heritage pioneer picnic and entertainment.

Our Queensland, Our Blackbutt Queensland Week Celebration

When: Sunday 10 June 2012

This celebration was a fun day of entertainment by Queenslanders accompanied by local cuisine. It commenced with a poet’s breakfast, followed by the raising of the Queensland Flag and reading of the Proclamation. Other activities included an essay competition on ‘What Queensland means to me’, children’s activities, restored cars display, community achievement awards, best decorated hat competition and old time games.

Winton’s Queensland Week Celebration

The event included motorbike competitions, demonstrations, rockclimbing, jumping castle, face painting, Queensland themed BBQ, and entertainment by a local band and DJ. There were also barrel and bending races, and an open wheelie competition.
