Venues and villages

Hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a privilege that will define our city and state for decades to come.

Queensland has a plan, and the Brisbane 2032 infrastructure program is at the heart of our opportunity as host. This is not just about four weeks of sport.

A review of Brisbane 2032 sports venue infrastructure has been undertaken. Visit the Department of State Development and Infrastructure website to find out more.

Games Venues

All new and upgraded venue projects are being pre-planned to meet the needs of our growing regions and brought forward to be built in time for the Games, not built for the Games.

New and upgraded facilities will be purpose designed to meet local community participation needs first and foremost, before being converted to Games competition venue mode, and then returned to the community with long-lasting benefits. A pipeline of development and construction is being accelerated to deliver venues and infrastructure to support our growing state.

The majority of venues are existing or temporary, reducing the overall cost of the Games and reducing environmental impacts.

The Brisbane 2032 venues and villages program currently includes competition venues for hosting 28 Olympic and 22 Paralympic sports.

Athlete Villages

Brisbane 2032 is expected to accommodate more than 16,000 athletes and officials during the Olympic Games and around 8,000 during the Paralympic Games. All accommodation provided to athletes will be near the competition venues, with the average athlete travel time expected to be less than 20 minutes.

After the Games, three of the villages will provide new permanent dwellings for South East Queensland’s growing population within vibrant mixed-use precincts.

Athletes will also be accommodated in regional and interstate hotels. Opportunities will be explored to deliver the Villages in partnership with the private sector.
