Support for young parents and carers
The services listed below provide support for young people who are pregnant, have children, or are caring for a friend or family member.
Pregnancy
I Stay Safe can help you understand pregnancy and related health issues.
Parenting support
The Raising Children Network has tips about raising children through all development stages up to the early teens.
The Young Parents Program is for young parents (under 25) based in Townsville.
Support activities include:
- weekly playgroups and parent group activities
- individual case management
- help to get baby items, furniture, clothing and food parcels.
The Young Parents Support Program is for young pregnant women and mums aged up to 25 in South East Queensland.
Services include:
- pregnancy and parenting support
- social activities
- weekly playgroups
- home and hospital visits.
Studying
We provide support to help you complete your studies, including.
- school-based support
- community-based support
- the Helping Young Parents program is for young parents aged 19 or younger who want to get their Year 12 Certificate, or a Certificate II equivalent. This Centrelink program offers extra support by linking you with local services to help care for your child while studying.
Support for young carers
Young carers are children and young people aged up to 25 who care for a family member or friend.
Help is available including:
- counselling and support
- respite (someone else caring for your family member or friend so you can have a break)
- support with study.
Financial support is also available for young carers.
