Financial help for school students
The Schoolkids Bonus will help with many education costs for children at school.
Buying a school uniform
Most schools have a uniform shop and have arrangements with uniform suppliers. Many schools also have second-hand uniforms for sale.
For information on help buying a school uniform, contact your school.
Help buying textbooks
We provide help to parents of high school aged students that are attending state and approved non-state high schools with the cost of text books and learning resources.
Schools will choose how they distribute these funds, usually through text book hiring schemes, direct payments to parents or a combination of both.
Contact your school principal or school financial services on 1800 248 997.
Help for home education students is also available by contacting the Home Education Unit on (07) 3405 3916.
Textbook and resource allowance provides financial assistance to parents of secondary school age students attending state and approved non-state schools who live in Queensland or New South Wales, to help with the cost of textbooks and learning resources. Registered home education students in years 8-12 are also eligible.
Transport
The School Transport Assistance Scheme offers financial help to parents for transport to and from school. It is available for eligible primary and secondary school aged children.
Living away from home while studying
The Living Away from Home Allowances Scheme provides assistance to eligible Queensland parents whose children must board away from home to attend school on a daily basis because:
- their homes are geographically isolated
- they do not have daily access to a government school with the appropriate level of primary, secondary or special schooling.
The scheme has 4 allowances:
- Remote Area Tuition Allowance
- Remote Area Travel Allowance
- Remote Area Allowance
- Remote Area Disability Supplement.
All payments are dependent on applicants’ homes meeting distance eligibility criteria or being approved under special circumstances by the Minister for Education, Training and Employment.
Payment also depends on school attendance and distance checking.
