Detention centre rules

While you are in detention you have to follow detention centre rules:

  • Treat everyone with respect.
  • Always follow staff directions.
  • No smoking.
  • No misbehaving.

Rewarding good behaviour

We expect good behaviour at our centres. In fact, we have a system that encourages and rewards good behaviour. Your behaviour and the way you perform everyday jobs are linked to a points system–the better you behave the more points you will get.

Consequences for bad behaviour

  • If you misbehave there are serious consequences. You may lose points and privileges, be placed in your room or have extra jobs to do
  • Misbehaviour that involves assault of staff or other young people is unacceptable. If this occurs you may be charged for your actions and have to go to court
  • We do not tolerate any inappropriate behaviour, sexual harassment or discrimination at the centre. If someone is hurting you or doing something that you don’t like, tell a staff member straight away

Security and fire equipment

It is an offence to touch or damage any fire alarms, sprinklers, cameras or security devices that may be in your room or around the centre.

It is also an offence to commit wilful damage, such as deliberately breaking things or writing graffiti anywhere.
