Grants and funding
What is a grant?
A grant is a payment made to a person or organisation for a specific purpose or project. The Queensland Government provides many grants, including some specifically for young people.
For example, you could apply for a grant to help you:
- compete in a state or national sports championship by subsiding the cost of your travel and accommodation
- pay for transport to attend school if you live in an area with a limited student population
- tour regional and remote Queensland with your band
- pay for your education expenses while you study teaching at university.
Who can get a grant?
Grants can be for individuals or organisations. To be considered for a grant, you will first need to meet a set of criteria. Each grant will have different criteria for who can apply and how the money can be spent.
For most Queensland Government grants, you will need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. There are some exceptions, so please check the criteria for each grant.
To apply for a grant, you will usually have to write an application about why you need the grant and/or what you will spend the money on. It is important you read the grant information carefully to see what you need to do. Remember to check the closing date.
