Top 10 style topics

The source of style for all Queensland Government agencies is the Style manual for authors, editors and printers, as mandated in the Queensland Government Corporate Identity Manual * (pp. 25, 69).

The government standard reference for spelling in Australia is the Macquarie Dictionary (3rd edn, 2002).

All the following material is based on these sources.

Some agencies also have a supplementary in-house guide for department-specific terminology and conventions.

Acronyms and abbreviations
Addresses (postal and web)
Apostrophes
Bulleted and numbered lists
Capitalisation
Dashes: hyphens, ens and ems
Dates
Legislation
Numbers and measurement
Referencing

* - only available online to Queensland Government employees.

This section of the web writing guide deals with style, not technical issues. If you have any technical problems with implementation, see your web developer (e.g. en and em rules may need to be manually encoded).
