Adequate, skilled and dedicated social media officers are imperative to the successful use of social media. The strategic selection, management and maintenance of a social media account is a specialist skill. It is advisable to train and appoint social media personnel or at least recognise this as a significant function within existing roles.
The resource implications for an agency will depend upon the size of agency, the issues managed by its portfolio, the social media tools employed, the audience size and the implementation method.
