Screen Layout
1.1 Standard
The layout of elements on screen must be clear and provide a common look and feel to ensure a consistent user experience across Queensland Government web sites. The elements must be of consistent dimensions.
1.2 Guidelines and discussion
This standard establishes a structured layout for the consistent placement of branding elements, site utilities, navigation and content on web pages. The rationale is as follows:
- Common placement of elements on every page creates a consistent visual experience and assists the user in identifying their location. The consistent screen layout enables users to easily learn where to find information with a limited number of mouse clicks.
- Common dimensions for page elements will ensure that the user's visual experience across sites is consistent. There will be a seamless visual transition from site to site.
- For home pages and web applications, the CUE header (sections 1 - 5 of the screen layout diagram) and footer (section 12 of the screen layout diagram) should be applied as well as the general principles of the CUE standard for content areas. This includes font requirements as outlined in section 2.2.2 of the standard.
