Accessibility
The provision of information and online services via the World Wide Web is a service covered by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Equal access for people with a disability is thus required where it can be reasonably provided. The Queensland Government mandates accessibility in Principle 3 - Website Accessibility; of Information Standard 26.
The Consistent User Experience is an attempt to achieve international best practice in accessible web design. In June 2000, the Online Council, representing the Commonwealth and all State and Territory governments, agreed that the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 will be the common best practice standard for Australian government websites. Familiarity with these guidelines should be viewed as essential for anyone involved in a Queensland Government web development.
