The Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships has a lead agency role to provide whole-of-government responses to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues. The Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships regional offices provide a link between government agencies and communities. Regional public officials also have a pivotal role in building relationships of trust between communities and government.
The Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships regional directors and the Cape York Strategy Unit assist government champions in remote area Meeting Challenges, Making Choices (MCMC) communities, providing them with information on issues of concern, or those requiring resolution, and monitoring the delivery of agreed outcomes under the community action plans.
The Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships central office supports relationshipsbetween agencies on cross-agency issues, including planning, program management and policy development, and monitors the agreed outcomes of community action plans.
The Department of Communities plays a central role to deliver the Queensland Government’s commitment to provide Queenslanders with opportunities to become involved in planning and decision-making processes. The department works with agencies, individuals and communities, and the industry and tertiary sectors to explore and implement effective ways of working together on solutions. It develops innovative approaches as well as building on the many successful examples of engagement.
