Seniors Card discounts

TransLink concessions

Australians with a valid Seniors Card from any state or territory are eligible for concession fares on TransLink public transport (excluding AirTrain).

If you hold a Queensland Gold Repatriation Health Card or Queensland Pensioner Concession Card, you are also entitled to a concession fare.

Concession fares cost half the price of an adult fare, so it’s important you always carry your concession card with you when you travel.

Free travel is available for:

  • Vision Impairment (VIP) Travel Pass holders
  • Queensland Government Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) Veteran Travel Pass holders
  • the person supporting a Companion Card holder (all states and territories).

Seniors card+go

You can combine your current Seniors Card with the convenience of the TransLink go card into one easy-to-use card by applying for or upgrading to a Seniors card+go.

If you already have a go card you can transfer any remaining balance, including the refundable deposit to your new Seniors Card +go. Call 13 12 30 to arrange a balance transfer.

You can also transfer a registered go card balance to another registered go card online.

Your free Seniors Card+go works the same as having the 2 separate cards. One side of the card gives you Queensland Seniors Card benefits and the other gives you access to concession fares for TransLink services like the bus, train and ferry.

Each time you travel on public transport, touch your card against the card reader, which you will find at the entry and exit points of buses and ferries, and on platforms or fare gates at train stations.

The reader will automatically deduct the correct fare from your card as well as display the cost of your trip and the balance remaining.

You can top up your balance, register and use your Seniors Card+go just like all other TransLink go cards, plus you don’t have to pay the usual $5 refundable deposit.

Other transport concessions

Non-TransLink services that also offer a discount to people with a valid Seniors Card include:

Handy hint

Did you know your Queensland pensioner concession card entitles you to free Queensland Rail long-distance travel entitlements each year? The only thing you need to pay is a non-refundable administration fee per entitlement.
