Ideas for events

There are many kinds of events that can help celebrate, educate, or raise awareness about an issue relevant to seniors. You may wish to organise an activity listed below, or do something completely different!

  • Host a breakfast, morning tea, family fun day, lunch or community picnic. You could organise a guest speaker to talk about an issue important to seniors.
  • Organise an activity to promote healthy living such as a fun walk, tai chi, a sports day or a cooking class.
  • Approach a local school about working together on a seniors activity, like holding a concert or story telling workshop to promote inter-generational relationships.
  • Organise a seniors information day and invite local service providers to talk about the services they offer seniors.
  • Hold a sausage sizzle at your local hardware or shopping centre to fundraise for a seniors organisation and invite a local identity or sportsperson to cook.
  • Approach local shopkeepers and ask if they will display information relevant to seniors in their store.
  • Approach a local identity, such as the Mayor or a local sportsperson, to make a media statement about an issue relevant to seniors.
  • Arrange for a story about an issue relevant to seniors to be published in your local newspaper and newsletters.
  • Approach organisations to produce a special edition of their regular newsletter especially focused around information relevant to seniors.
