Housing options

If you are finding it difficult to live in your current home without assistance, you may be considering changing your living arrangements.

Some options include moving in to a smaller home, moving in with family (e.g. a granny flat) or moving to an aged care home.

If you are looking to downsize, but still want to live independently, you could consider a retirement village. These communities can offer a range of services for independent older people such as cafes, pools, gyms, and organised social and leisure activities.

Alternatively, you may be able to access in-home support which can help you to stay in your current home for longer.

You can read more about your accommodation options in the Australian Government's guide to accommodation for older Australians. The guide also provides information on finances and how your living arrangements may affect your pension payments.

An Aged Care Assessment Team can provide you with information and advice on some of your options. They can help you work out what type of care will best meet your needs and assess whether you are eligible for:

Visit Aged Care Australia or phone the Aged Care Information Line on 1800 200 422 for more information.
