Carer support
Are you a carer looking after a senior so that they can continue to live in their own home? It is important that you also look after yourself, and ask for help when you need it. The following resources are available to support you.
Respite care
When you need a break from your caring duties you can arrange respite care. The person you care for can be cared for at home or in a respite centre. This could be anywhere from a couple of hours during the day, to a weekend away.
Support groups
Attending a support group is an opportunity for you to talk with people in similar situations, get advice and information, and have a break from your caring duties. To find a support group, contact the Carers Advisory Service on 1800 242 636.
Counselling service
You can talk to a qualified counsellor either over the phone or face to face through the National Carer Counselling Program. They provide counselling on issues such as stress management and can suggest coping skills and strategies. Contact the Carers Advisory Service on 1800 242 636.
