Notice to appear provides a general description of the offence you are charged with, rather than a formally worded charge in a summons. It doesn’t have to be sworn on oath, so police can issue it on the spot.

Complaint and summons: A charge in writing that has been sworn on oath before a Justice of the Peace and served on you. You then have to appear in the local Magistrates Court a few weeks later.

Minor offences you can plead guilty to online

  • Committing public nuisance
  • Contravening a direction or requirement of police
  • Disobeying the speed limit
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle
  • Driving without a licence where no disqualification order is made (e.g. driving on an expired licence)
  • Driving without due care and attention
  • Using an unregistered vehicle on roads
  • Unauthorised dealing with shop goods (maximum $150)
