For our young children, kindy provides a lifetime of opportunities. Kindy is a place where children can explore new environments and have fun learning with friends. By participating in kindy, our young children develop a love of learning and are ready for a strong start to education. Kindy is where children explore diverse environments and cultures, with a focus on First Nations' perspectives.

From 1 January 2024, kindy is free for eligible-aged children who attend a government-approved program offering free kindy.

Families will benefit from free kindy regardless of whether they attend a sessional kindergarten or kindergarten in long day care. Kindy is 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year and is free.

Families should speak to their local kindergarten program provider regarding the start date of their child's kindergarten program.

Kindergarten services in Queensland are funded to create inclusive and quality early learning programs for all children.
