Past housing debts
Any debts you have owing to the Queensland Government (for rent, maintenance or a bond loan) must be repaid before more assistance is given to you.
You can still apply for housing and be placed on the housing register but you will not be offered a property until the debt is repaid.
If you have a high or very high level of housing need, we may be able to organise special repayments to allow you to receive housing assistance while repaying the debt.
How do I find out if I have a housing debt?
Talk to staff at your nearest Housing Service Centre who can check your housing records. We will send you a letter saying how much the debt is and how to make repayments.
What if I don’t agree with the debt?
If you don’t think you owe the money, or you think you have already repaid it, you can ask for a debt review through your nearest Housing Service Centre. Make sure you provide any information you feel needs to be included in the review.
We will send you a letter to let you know the result of the debt review. If you still owe money after the review, you must repay it.
Making debt repayments
You can repay your debt using:
- EasyPay (our electronic payment facility)
- a Payment Card for making repayments at any Australia Post office or agency (for example a newsagent). Your nearest Housing Service Centre can issue a card to you.
When you have repaid your debt, talk to your nearest Housing Service Centre so you can be offered housing when you reach the top of the housing register.
Keep all your receipts, as we may need to see them to check your payments.
