Living in units

Information for Queensland public housing tenants.

What are by-laws?

When you first signed your State Tenancy Agreement you were given a copy of your unit, flat or townhouse by-laws.

By-laws are the rules for living in your complex as set out by the Body Corporate—everybody has to obey these rules. The rules are usually about things like noise, behaviour of visitors, use of and damage to common property and pets.

It is a condition of your State Tenancy Agreement that you follow these by-laws.

Can I get involved in the Body Corporate if I don't own the unit I live in?

Yes you can, but because you are a tenant in the complex, you don't have the right to vote at any Body Corporate meetings.
