Insurance

Information for Queensland public housing tenants.

Are my belongings insured?

No—the insurance policy we hold only covers loss or damage to the home or building caused by fire or storms. It does not cover your contents.

You are responsible for insuring your own possessions against loss or damage. This includes insuring your furniture, clothing and personal items against fire, water damage, overflowing sewage or theft.

The department strongly encourages all households to get home contents insurance cover for their possessions and valuables.

For information or advice on contents insurance, contact an insurance company by looking under ‘insurance’ in the yellow pages.
