Housing for people leaving jail or detention

Eligibility

To be eligible for housing, you must apply within 1 year of your release date. You must also meet the housing eligibility criteria.

If your release date is more than 1 year from the date you applied, you will not be eligible for housing. You can reapply once your release date is less than 1 year away.

What do I need to provide with my application?

You will need to prove your release date. Written evidence of any conditions attached to your release (or another  document that shows your release date) is acceptable.

If your sentence is longer than 3 years, you will have a parole hearing to decide a definite release date (also called a parole date). Your parole date is not your release date. You need to provide evidence showing us your actual release date.

If you are on court ordered parole (for sentences less than 3 years) you will have a definite release date. You will need to provide evidence of the date to us.
