Mobility aids

Mobility aids help you walk or move from place to place if you are unable to walk independently.

You may need a mobility aid if you:

  • have a disability
  • are at risk of falling
  • have reduced balance
  • are unable to walk, or have reduced strength or endurance due to illness or injury.

Types of mobility aids

  • motorised scooter or cart
  • walking stick, cane or frame
  • crutches
  • wheelchair.

Finding a mobility aid

Your doctor, physiotherapist or occupational therapist will be able to advise you how to obtain a mobility aid. They will also recommend the type of mobility aid most suitable for your circumstances.
