Avian influenza

Avian influenza (bird flu) is a highly contagious viral infection of birds including poultry.

There are many strains of the virus, some of which cause no clinical signs. Other strains can be devastating to susceptible birds, for example the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of Avian Influenza that has occurred in Asia, Africa and Europe since 2003.
