Activities in national parks

Queensland’s parks and forests offer many ways to experience and enjoy the state’s spectacular natural areas.

Things to see and do

Activities vary from park to park—find a park or forest that’s right for you.

Stay overnight

Tourist accommodation such as hotels, motels, guesthouses and resorts are not provided in Queensland’s national parks, but some parks are close to commercial tourist resorts.

Formal camping

Formal camping areas are provided in most parks and forests where camping is allowed. Facilities are different at each camping area, so make sure you read the camping information provided at each park or forest.

Park alerts keep you up to date with information about access, closures and conditions.

Bush camping

Bush camping is allowed in some parks where there are a few or no facilities. Bush campers must camp well away from streams, lakes, walking tracks and picnic areas. Camper numbers are limited, and camping permits are required (fees apply).

Visitor facilities

Many parks have facilities for visitors, such as picnic tables, fireplaces, a water supply, shelter sheds and toilets, but you may need to be self-sufficient if the park is new or remote.

Wheelchair access

Many parks and forests allow access for people using a wheelchair, people with vision impairment, and parents with children in strollers. Find out which parks are suitable for your specific needs.

Connect with Nature

Connect with Nature is a program of ranger-led activities and events run by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Some parks and forests have regular school and holiday programs or guided tours. Other parks offer occasional activities such as slide shows, guided walks, spotlighting, and other special visitor programs.
