Take a war memorial tour
War memorials play an important role in commemorating Australia’s involvement in the First World War and in demonstrating the pattern of Queensland’s military history.
Queenslanders and tourists can now visit some of the many war memorials scattered throughout our state using specially-developed driving itineraries.
- Blackall to Mount Isa
- Brisbane to Brooweena
- Brisbane to Warwick
- Bundaberg to Yeppoon
- Cairns to Atherton Tablelands Circuit
- Cairns to Cooktown
- Great Western Circuit
- Ipswich to Graceville
- Kangaroo Point to Dunwich

- Townsville to Mount Isa
The driving journeys feature 90 war memorials, many of which are on the Queensland Heritage Register, from the south-east corner out to Mt Isa and up to Cooktown.
This project is one way the Queensland Government is planning for the 2015 ANZAC Centenary.
This a collaborative project between the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection; the Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and Commonwealth Games; and Tourism and Events Queensland.
