Tides and wave heights
The Queensland Government operates the tide gauge network around the Queensland coast. The network records the movement of tides and storm surges. The official tide predictions are published as times and heights of high and low waters in the Queensland Tide Tables.

Wave and storm tide monitoring
More and more people are choosing to live close to their favourite beach. One quarter of all Queenslanders live within 3 kilometres of the ocean. So it's essential we know as much as possible about the natural forces that affect the coast and the people who live nearby.
To collect this vital data, we operate an extensive system around the coast.
Information from wave monitoring, storm tide monitoring, hydrographic surveys and visual monitoring form a valuable historical database used to identify how nature and humans have changed the coast over the years, and indicate future trends.
