Public transport safety

Public transport—staying safe
Personal safety on public transport
Dangerous situations can be avoided by using the following strategies:
- Plan your travel to avoid unnecessary waiting.
- Tell someone your expected arrival time.
- Wait in a place you feel safe, such as in a well-lit area near other people.
- When leaving public transport, pay attention to who exits with you.
Security measures on public transport
Queensland's public transport providers have implemented several security measures, including:
- security officers and guards patrolling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- emergency phones in train and bus stations
- security cameras on buses, at bus stations and on CityCats
- secure taxi ranks
- taxi security cameras
- core safety zones, marked with a blue and white striped line at train stations, have better lighting, security cameras and emergency phones.
All Australian governments are strengthening transport system security by:
- making it easier for people to report suspicious items or behaviour
- making the public more aware of risks.
