Safe drinking water

Safe drinking water

A boil alert was issued on 1 February for residents on Warra town water following a positive E.coli result during a routine water test.

Boil alerts are issued when the water supplied by your water utility is unsafe or unavailable to drink due to disease-causing microbes.

Queensland Health advises to drink bottled water or boil tap water before consumption.

To make tap water safe to drink:

  • boil for 3 minutes before consumption
  • leave to cool in clean, covered containers.

Use cooled boiled water for daily water consumption, including:

  • drinking
  • preparing baby formula
  • washing hands
  • preparing food and cooking
  • brushing teeth
  • bathing infants
  • making ice.

Dirty dishes should be:

  1. washed in hot soapy water
  2. rinsed in hot water
  3. left to air-dry.

Boiling water that is contaminated by chemicals is not safe; use a different water source.

Listen to local media and check your local council website for boil alerts and water safety information.
