Department of Community Safety recognised for Qld Floods and Cyclone Yasi response

Disaster response

Staff and volunteers from Department of Community Safety (DCS) and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) have been recognised for their achievements helping people during Queensland's natural disasters from December 2010 to February 2011.

DCS and QPS were awarded the Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Service Delivery in the category of 'disaster management' for their work to prepare for disaster, minimise the impact on communities, assist with evacuations, encourage community resilience, assist with the clean up and respond to the state's need to rebuild and reconnect.

The Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Service Delivery recognise excellence, best practice and improvements in public service delivery. The 2011 awards have dedicated the 'disaster management' category to recognise a project or team that demonstrated outstanding performance and achievement in supporting communities affected by the Queensland floods and cyclones.
