If it is flooded, forget it

If it is flooded, forget it

Each year innocent lives are lost as a result of people making the choice to venture into flooded creeks and causeways, which is why Queenslanders are being advised 'If it is flooded, forget it'.

The 'If it is flooded, forget it' education initiative was launched by Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts to remind Queenslanders to never walk or play in floodwaters and not to drive through floodwaters.

"All Queenslanders should be aware of the dangers around floodwater or swift flowing water. When things go wrong, rescuers are required to put their lives at risk to save others".

"Every year firefighters across Queensland rescue more people from water than they do from fires, usually as a result of the lack of understanding of the dangers associated with crossing flooded creeks and causeways", Minister Roberts said.

The message is clear 'If it is flooded, forget it' - never enter floodwaters and discourage others from doing so.

Floodwaters are treacherous and the dangers are hidden under the surface.

I appeal to all Queenslanders.
