School closure

Unscheduled closures
Schools may have to close unexpectedly—sometimes at short notice—due to natural disasters or health reasons (e.g. swine flu outbreaks).
To find out if your school is closing during an event like this, listen to your local radio station or check:
- the Department of Education, Training and Employment website—an initial alert will be posted on the front page in the announcements section
- the Natural Disasters web page
- your school's website.
Scheduled closures
Schools close for holidays, and also for 6 student-free days each year. Student-free days are mostly at the beginning or end of holidays to minimise inconvenience—the third Monday in term 4 is one exception.
Make sure you check the school holiday information for defined dates.
Proposed school closures
Eight state schools have been identified for proposed closure, and 1 for amalgamation as part of the Department's 2013 School Viability Assessment.
Consultation is currently underway in relevant school communities.

Permanent school closures
