Completing your school-based apprenticeship or traineeship
All apprenticeships and traineeships in Queensland are competency-based.
This means you move through your apprenticeship or traineeship as you attain competencies, rather than by finishing in a set amount of time.
When it is agreed by all parties that you have completed all the requirements of your training plan, you’ve finished—the time spent training isn’t a factor.
Read more about the completion process.
What happens if I don't finish while I’m still at school?
Many students will still be in the middle of their training when they finish school. This is often the case for apprenticeships.
To complete your qualification after you finish school, you will need to convert from a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship to either a full-time or part-time apprenticeship or traineeship.
You and your employer will need to use the following amendment form to do this:
- Amendment of school-based training contract (PDF, 98KB)
- Amendment of school-based training contract (DOC, 186KB)
Once you convert to full-time or part-time arrangements, normal award wages and conditions apply.
