Extra funds flow for regional arts tours
11 January 2013: Regional Queenslanders will have more access to arts productions thanks to the Newman Government’s Playing Queensland Fund, opened by Arts Minister Ros Bates.
Ms Bates said the fund delivered on a major Newman Government election commitment to boost performing arts touring by an extra $3 million over 4 years (2013–16).
‘We want to double the number of touring arts productions across regional Queensland, ensuring everyone across this great state has access to the arts,’ Ms Bates said.
‘This also supports our major state companies with their goal of touring more regularly.’
Ms Bates said there had been wide consultation with the touring sector, the public, artists and arts organisations during recent months about getting the best value from touring funds.
‘This flexible new approach will simplify the application process by cutting red tape and providing a faster turnaround and better access to funding,’ she said.
‘Applicants can apply for funding at any time and will be notified of the outcome within 8 weeks.
‘I know Queenslanders are very keen on having a variety of arts come to their communities and this will help ensure there is every chance people will be able to enjoy the touring productions they want to see.’
