Accessible trains and stations

Brisbane and South East Queensland

Train travellers using a wheelchair or mobility aid will find priority seating just inside the train's doors.

Some Queensland Rail stations have platforms that are slightly higher or lower than the train entry. If you need a portable ramp or help to board or disembark, wait at the assisted boarding point-indicated on the platform by a white wheelchair on a blue background and where there is a mat with a raised, tactile surface.

A comprehensive Station Access Guide is available from Queensland Rail.

Rural and regional Queensland

The North Coast, Great Northern, Central Western and South Western lines have all been upgraded to comply with the accessible public transport standards. To find out more about accessible stations outside the city network call Queensland Rail on 1800 872 467.

Can my assistance dog ride with me on the train?

Yes, as long as the animal is a certified assistance dog and is wearing an assistance coat. An assistance dog handler card must be carried whenever travelling on public transport with an assistance dog.

For more information, read about using public transport with an assistance dog.

Subsidies, concessions and passes

A range of subsidies, concession cards and access passes are available for use throughout Queensland.

SMS messaging service

Queensland Rail has a 24-hour SMS text messaging service specifically for train travellers who have disability—particularly those who are deaf or have a hearing impairment.

The SMS messaging service number is 0428 774 636 and it can be used to make enquiries before, during or after a train journey. For example, if you get off the train at an unattended station and want to know when the next train to Brisbane central departs, and from which platform, send a text message with these details. A Queensland Rail service officer will respond as soon as possible.

Accessible public transport

In Queensland, all new trains and train stations must comply with Australia's Disability standards for accessible public transport. Upgrades to existing stops are underway.
