Competing in elite sport

Information about competing in elite sports, including major championships and event details; as well as guidance about sports nutrition, training and other topics, is available from government and national and state sports organisations.

Peak organisations for different sports may also be able to provide you with information about elite disability sport. See QSport's member directory as a starting point for representative sports organisations in Queensland.

Getting classified

If you want to compete in elite disability sport, you need to get classified. Each sport has its own classification system. The next web page in this guide is about disability sport classification.

Support our Paralympians

Show your support for Queensland's Paralympians who'll be competing at the 2012 London Paralympic Games by keeping up to date with news from the Australian Paralympic Committee in the lead up to the Games, which will be held from 29 August to 9 September this year.

Did you know?

Special Olympics Australia will host the first Asia Pacific Games in Newcastle, New South Wales, from 30 November to 7 December 2013. More than 1700 Special Olympics athletes are expected to participate from 25 nations across the Asia-Pacific, with about 200,000 spectators anticipated to take in the sports action.
